My Legal and Ethical Philosophy
My philosophy takes on technology integrating with education:
Examining the legal aspect on mixing technology with education, my personal opinion would be that it is dangerous and should be handled with extreme caution. I believe this in light of an increase of cyberbullying which results in harm that students commit to themselves. Bullying can start in schools but with the use of technology it is also carried out of those walls and into the technology world. Cyberbullying has now been in included with the anti-harassment and anti-bullying laws in more than half the states in the United States. If a defendant is caught engaging in cyberbullying, they can be charged with a crime. This I why legally I disagree with the use of technology being integrated in classrooms if it is not being used for reasons that are not tailored to the lesson plan. For example, if a 13-year-old was caught engaging in cyberbullying they would have to face legal issues because of that, so steps should be taken where students that young should be supervised on how they use technology.
Examining the ethical aspect of mixing technology with education, my personal opinion would be that it is 100% wrong for students to be misusing technology is ways that harm others. The result of cyberbullying has led time and time again to low self-esteem and low confidence, or in worse case scenarios, self-inflicted wounds to the victims. Bullying is wrong no matter in what forms it comes in. There's an article on a 15-year-old boy who went to a very nice school, and he had great potential to do well with his future, but he was still subjected to cyberbullying which then resulted in his harming himself in suicide. Movies have been promoted to bring awareness to the dangers of how the internet can be misused and mistreated when it is in the hands of people who don't know how to use it properly. The way that this can be avoided is that certain sites should be blocked on the school Wi-Fi and talks about the misuse of internet and what bullying looks like should be had with students during assemblies and with parents.
